Prince Feisal from Jordan called upon the world’s leading sporting bodies to play a major role in promoting the issue of women in sport, on the eve of the 4th International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Conference on Women and Sport.
“Never has there been a better time to address the issue of women and sport,” the statement quoted Prince Feisal, president of the JOC and member of the IOC Commission for Women and Sport, as saying. “Despite the great progress that we have seen in recent years, all of us can do more whether as individuals, teams or sporting organisations. Under the leadership of my brother, His Majesty King Abdullah, here in Jordan we take great pride in the increasingly prominent role that women play across our society. Politicians, business leaders and, I am proud to say, some of our most talented athletes are female. The numbers increase year on year, but we have to continue the work until all gender discrimination is banished from both the workplace and the playing field.”
