Irene Heemskerk works at the Dutch Central Bank as a Senior Policy Advisor on Climate Risks and Sustainability. She coordinates the activities on sustainability within supervision and is closely involved in the work of the Central Banks and Supervisors Network for Greening the Financial System. After obtaining her international and European law degree, Irene was trained as a legislator. She joined the Central Bank in 2005 and subsequently took on positions as a legal counsel, supervisor and secretary to the Supervisory Board.
Her curiosity and interest in other people and cultures has taken her to many places in the world. She studied for a year in Vancouver, did an internship at the United Nations headquarters in New York, lived in Vietnam and attended a wedding in South Sudan.
Irene loves sports and especially outdoor activities. She started practicing rowing at university and has been passionate about it ever since. Irene joined Women Win in 2014. Her love for sport combined with her drive for a better position for women in the world, made her decide to join Women Win: “I believe that sport is an excellent way for girls to develop self-consciousness and the experience will empower them to stand up in for their right”.
