WOMEN:girls is a cause-driven, not-for-profit organisation (NPO) that was founded in 2011 to help women realise their potential as role models and to develop children to become agents of change.

In 2013, WOMEN:girls launched a storytelling movement called Ikal Mayang to amplify women’s voices in the public sphere through over 60 shorts films. WOMEN:girls’ Power Lunch Series was selected as a satellite event for the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit hosted in Kuala Lumpur in October that year. WOMEN:girls also organised the prestigious TEDxKLwomen conferences in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Current projects under WOMEN:girls include Ibu Nakhoda Hidup, a programme to aid entrepreneurial mothers in building a business and Young Changemakers, a nationwide programme to spur young people into making a positive impact through community-level social projects.

In 2017, WOMEN:girls became the local implementing partner in Malaysia for the Goal programme; an award-winning development programme which uses sport and life skills education to transform the lives of adolescent girls. For its first year, Goal Malaysia had an outreach of 2,719 girls, and recruited 127 Goal Girls into the full programme.

While committed to growth from the grassroots, WOMEN:girls will not stop until better opportunities are available to those trapped by circumstance whether through policies implemented by those above or movements that start from below.
