P.A.C.E. for Adolescent Girls and Young Women

Since 2016, Win-Win Strategies has implemented the P.A.C.E. for Younger Girls and Women Programmes together with our partners on the ground Asociación AMA in Guatemala, Colectivo Las Diosas and Mujeres Jóvenes de Santa Marta in El Salvador, and Colectivo de Mujeres Xitlali and Colectivo Accionar Feminista (CAFÉ) in Nicaragua. The programme supports adolescent girls and young women living in rural and indigenous populations who are often surrounded by a machismo culture, to reflect and explore themselves and their goals, understand their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and engage in conversations on gender-based violence.

In addition to its implementation, the Win-Win Strategies team reviewed and gamified the Younger Girls curriculum including play-based games and activities to increase girls’ interest and enjoyment. For girls specifically, the process of ‘embodying’ lessons related to themes such as leadership, self-confidence or sexuality are critical to achieve intended outcomes.

In a region where Covid-19 has hit the hardest, adolescent girls and young women continue to be affected in a myriad of ways, including adverse effects on their education, personal safety, bodily autonomy, health, peer support, social connections and economic prospects. Within this context, there is a need for the P.A.C.E. Programme greater than ever before.
