Sara K. Andrews
Sara K. Andrews serves as Counsel and Programme Manager for New Perimeter, DLA Piper’s international pro bono initiative and non-profit affiliate. In this capacity, she develops, manages and participates in projects for which teams of DLA Piper lawyers provide legal assistance on economic development, law reform, legal education, and human rights issues in developing and post-conflict nations. Ms. Andrews has worked on projects including legal education initiatives in Mexico, Ethiopia, South Africa and Namibia; rule of law work in the Balkans; a project to combat sexual violence in Zimbabwe; a programme aimed at empowering female Asian leaders; and a microfinance initiative in Malawi, Rwanda and Mali. She has developed partnerships with NGOs, government agencies and other joint venture partners.
Before joining New Perimeter full-time, Ms. Andrews practiced as a litigation associate. During that time she participated in New Perimeter’s Kosovo Law Reform Project. She spent four months in Pristina, Kosovo providing legislative drafting assistance to the Kosovo Ministry of Justice on laws creating the Kosovo judicial and prosecutorial systems. She also provided training to Kosovar lawyers on legislative drafting techniques, legal ethics and oral and written advocacy.
Prior to law school, Ms. Andrews worked as a legislative assistant to a US Congressman in Washington, DC and spent a year as a volunteer for the Americorps National Civilian Community Corps in San Diego, California.
In 2010, Ms. Andrews was selected as a Carnegie New Leader, a program sponsored by the Carnegie Council for professionals under the age of 40 who are future leaders the field of international affairs.
