Socheata Seng

Socheata joined Women Win in July 2023 as the Programme Coordinator for Equal Play Effect in Asia and the Pacific within the EQUIS workstream. Hailing from a small village in northern Cambodia, where landmines once cast shadows, Socheata’s journey is a powerful testament to the transformative power of football.

Socheata’s love for football began as a rebellion against a culture that often sidelined girls. Overcoming challenges both on the off the field, she emerged as one of Cambodian’s pioneering women football players, breaking barriers and defying societal norms. Through football, she travelled the country, excelling in school tournaments and even securing a scholarship to study media at the university. Her assignments become a platform to advocate for women’s sports, shedding light on gender disparities within football.

Working with Women Win, she has the opportunity to support and amplify the voices of other girls and women to challenge stereotypes and claim their rightful place in sports and society. Socheata now finds herself based in Finland, living life in her van, embracing the beauty of nature. In the summer, she enjoys biking, forest walks, and foraging for blueberries and mushrooms.
